RPN seals partnership with Aliw-23 to air ‘John en Marsha’

CLASSIC programs of Radio Philippines Network (RPN) will soon be aired on Aliw Channel 23 (Aliw-23).

This comes after both networks sealed a content partnership agreement allowing Aliw Broadcasting Corporation to air old episodes of two RPN comedy programs, “John en Marsha” and “Buddy en Sol.”

In the contract signing held at Aliw-23’s office in Pasig City on Monday, Aug. 12, RPN Treasurer Leon Dy said these programs that will be shown on channel 23 are legacy programs of the network.

“I hope that we'll remember these programs…‘John and Marsha’ and ‘Buddy en Sol,’ these are good family programs,” Dy said.

RPN Board Director Robert Rivera said the tie-up with Aliw-23 will expand the operations and reach of RPN.

Dennis Antenor Jr., the Vice President for Business Development of Aliw Broadcasting Corporation, welcomed RPN on Aliw-23, saying Aliw wants to give the audience better content.

“TV will always be about content. So, we are still pushing. We are still getting these kinds of partnerships because we want to serve you better,” Antenor said.

RPN and Aliw-23 have not yet disclosed the airing dates of “John en Marsha” and “Buddy en Sol.”

Aside from Dy, Rivera, and Antenor, present at the contract signing were RPN President Benjamin Ramos, RPN Operations and Business Manager Robertson Ong, and Aliw Broadcasting Corporation Executive Vice President and General Manager Mcneil Rante.

Aliw Channel 23

Aliw-23 is owned and operated by Aliw Broadcasting Corporation, a subsidiary of ALC Group of Companies. The ALC Group owns other media entities such as Nine Media Corporation (34-percent stake owner of RPN), radio stations 97.9 Home Radio and DWIZ 882, the business broadsheet BusinessWorld, the magazine Philippine Graphic, and the tabloid PILIPINO Mirror.

Aliw Channel 23 will be the second free-to-air television station to air "John en Marsha" and “Buddy en Sol” after the programs’ broadcast on RPN Channel 9.

The "John en Marsha" TV series last aired via cable channel Flip TV from 2002 to 2003.

RPN is currently uploading past episodes of "John en Marsha" and “Buddy en Sol” every week on RPN's Facebook and YouTube pages.

RPN is the home network of "John en Marsha," a television series created by legendary director Ading Fernando, and “Buddy en Sol,” a television program conceptualized by RPN Production Manager and Director Apollo Arellano.

John en Marsha

“John en Marsha” is about the poverty-stricken Puruntong family.

“John en Marsha,” a show that ran from November 22, 1973 to March 19, 1990 with a hiatus period from January 1978 to July 1980, starred Comedy King Dolphy Quizon (John Puruntong), Movie Queen Nida Blanca (Marsha Puruntong), comediennes Dely Atay-Atayan (Doña Delilah G. Jones) and Evelyn Bontogon-Guerrero (Matutina), Rolly Quizon (Rolly Puruntong), Madel de Leon-Cendaña (Madel Hakekak-Puruntong), Atong Redillas (John-John Puruntong) and Diamond Star Maricel Soriano (Shirley Puruntong).

Buddy en Sol

Meanwhile, “Buddy en Sol” is about the friendship of Salvador (Buddy) and Solomon (Sol), who were both victims of illegal recruiters.

“Buddy en Sol,” a program that premiered on New Vision Channel 9 on March 15, 1990, starred comedian Redford White (Sol) and Enrico Quizon (Buddy), son of Comedy King Dolphy.
